The Boy Scouts of America, now Scouting America, began Cub Scouting as a program for younger boys in 1930. The purpose of Cub Scouting is for parents, leaders, and the organization to work together to achieve the following among Cub Scouts:
- Influence the development of character and encourage spiritual growth
- Develop habits and attitudes of good citizenship
- Encourage good sportsmanship and pride in growing strong in mind and body
- Improve understanding within the family
- Strengthen the ability to get along with and respect others
- Foster a sense of personal achievement by developing new interests and skills
- Show how to be helpful and to do one’s best
- Provide fun and exciting things to do
- Prepare Cub Scouts to become Boy Scouts
Cub Scouting encourages family fun while providing youth with a safe space to make friends and challenge themselves through age-appropriate activities. It is a program where children and parents feel like they belong to an organization that consistently reinforces worthwhile values like honesty, good conduct, and respect for others.
